Horizon Forbidden West postponed until 2022
Horizon Zero Dawn, the next big PlayStation 5 game, has purportedly been delayed.
According to a Bloomberg report, Horizon Forbidden West has been postponed until the first quarter of 2022.
Horizon Forbidden West’s original release date of late 2021 would be pushed back, delaying another of the games Sony showcased for the PS5. In May, Guerrilla Games tweeted that ‘development is on track’ for the game. Despite the lack of a specific release date, Guerrilla’s executives had previously stated that the game would be released this year.
According to a Bloomberg source, Sony has indeed delayed the game, contrary to what GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb reported.
According to a Bloomberg report, the game’s release date has been pushed back, but it would be the latest in a long line of AAA game launches that have been pushed back to give studios more time.
Covid-related development delays may have pushed back the release dates of these upcoming games, but it’s difficult to tell if these delays are just typical of the video game industry. There is no doubt that the lockdown and remote working would slow down game development, but studios have suddenly become coy about naming Covid as the cause of delays.”
Death Stranding and The Last of Us 2 were delayed until July, while Halo Infinite and Deathloop were both pushed back until 2022 in August of the same year as a result of the pandemic. Sony’s Outriders and open-world Gotham Knights were two examples of studios and publishers returning to general and vague reasons for delays in early 2021.
What has changed? Covid’s delays may have cooled gamers’ enthusiasm for the video game industry, but there may be a bigger reason: CD Projekt Red’s CEO promised that the game’s team would continue to fix issues until the game “lived up to what was promised” after Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from the PlayStation 4 store in December 2020 due to numerous game-breaking bugs.
Irritating gamers is worth delaying for months or even years to avoid a game that hasn’t lived up to expectations six months after its release.
